A Chartwork Assessment Paper & General Assessment Paper covering the remaining aspects of the syllabus.

Day Skipper Theory Certificate

4 hours (2 hours Chartwork, 2 hours General Assessment)

Assessment papers for candidates who have completed all Day Skipper theory course modules.

Students who have completed all the Day Skipper course modules, take an exam, broken into two parts. One covers chart work & navigation, the other is a general assessment focusing on passage planning, rules & safety.

Once both exams have been completed, students schedule a debrief with an instructor. This serves as an opportunity to run through their assessment answers, iron out any concerns and ask questions.

Following a successful debriefing, students are awarded the Day Skipper theory certificate.

There are two assessment papers for Day Skipper Theory students. one on Chart work and a General Assessment.

One covers chart work & navigation, the other is a general assessment focusing on passage planning, rules & safety.

Once Day Skipper theory students have completed all course modules, they can request access to the assessment papers.

Access is given for seven days at a time of their choosing. Both assessment papers should be completed with the seven days. They can be done in any order and don’t have to be done together.

The most significant benefit of online learning is flexibility! We support our students when they are doing the course, but sometimes, life gets in the way of our best intentions & we don’t believe you should have to extend your course because of the time constraints we put on you.

Every student gets 12 months of active instructor support, but you can pause this up to 3 times. Of course, this doesn’t mean you lose access to the content; you have this for life, so you can still continue learning even if you pause your active support.

All we ask is that you complete the assessment within three years and within your active support time. (We think that’s reasonable).

We’ll prepare you well for the exam; however, we can organise a retake or partial retake with different questions if you fail.

Every student has a debriefing after completing both assessment papers; it is the ideal opportunity to discuss options and possible retakes, if appropriate. It’s up to the instructor doing the debriefing to decide if a student is up to the level for passing the course.

For the Assessment, you will need the following:

Students enrolled on a course have direct access to a briefing room where they can get instructor support. If you are enrolled on a course, log in to access your briefing room.
