Seamanship is earned, not learned; whilst we can read up on best practices and learn some basic skills, there's no substitute for practical experience. Every day's a school day on a boat.
Learn some core skills to support your practical learning experiences.
Seamanship is earned, not learned. Whilst we can spend time learning the basics and some theory in the classroom, nothing beats the value of real-world experience. It’s the constant learning experience that is the draw for many sailors. At sea, every day is a school day.
This module covers various skills to get you started in sailing. It can’t replace practical experience; however, from the language used, some helpful knots and things to think about when anchoring it will provide a platform to build on when out on the water.
On completing this module, you’ll earn the seamanship insignia!
