Latitude

Latitude is a geographic coordinate that specifies the north-south position of a point on the Earth’s surface. It is measured in degrees(°), minutes(‘), and seconds(”) north or south of the Equator, defined as 00° (degrees) latitude. Positive values indicate locations north of the Equator, while negative values indicate locations south. Latitude lines run parallel to the Equator and are used to determine a location’s position in relation to the North and South Poles.

In degrees, 90°N is the latitude for the North Pole and 90°S, the South Pole.

In today’s digital age, latitude is a decimal number with up to eight decimal places.
